Kavre bids adieu to its ‘third martyr’
Kavre, April 22:
A large number of people took part in the funeral procession of Sagun Tamrakar (18) of Panauti-7, Kavrepalanchowk, who died of bullet injuries sustained while he was taking part in a pro-democracy rally in Kalanki on Thursday. Grandmother of Sagun, Aashamaya (65), and his sister took part in the procession.
His last rites were performed at Trivenighat, Panauti. Sagun, who had sustained bullet injuries on the chest, died while undergoing treatment at the Model Hospital of Kathmandu on Thursday. Sagun had been staying at his maternal uncle’s house in Kalanki. The seven-party alliance declared him ‘the third Martyr of Kavre’.
The seven parties had taken his body to his home district amid a procession today. At a programme organised here, leaders of different parties paid tributes to Tamrakar. His body was covered with flags of seven parties. Sagun, my only son, had come to meet us in August 2005 for the last time, said his father Govinda. According to Dinesh, Sagun’s maternal uncle, the security forces had opened fire on Sagun at noon on Thursday.
Meanwhile, expressing solidarity with the democratic movement, literary figures of Kavre staged a demonstration in Banepa today. Staging a protest against the monarchy, students burnt tyres in different places of Banepa today.
