Khanal for unity government to draft new constitution

KATHMANDU: President Dr Ram Baran Yadav has intensified his political dialogue at a time when the constitution making process is being delayed.

The President held talks with the chairman of the ruling CPN-UML Jhala Nath Khanal and Vice

President Paramananda Jha

and expressed concerns over the delay in the constitution making and peace processes.

In a meeting with the President, Khanal said national consensus among political parties and the national unity government were needed to solve the problem.

“I told him that we have to go for a national political consensus and a national unity government,” Khanal told The Himalayan Times after his meeting with Dr Yadav.

“I found the President worried due to the delay in the constitution making and the peace processes,” he said.

The President also told Khanal that there is no one except the political parties and the political leadership to resolve the problem. He urged all the parties to make a joint effort for the purpose. “Political parties have the solution to every problem, therefore, they have to take the lead to solve the problems,” Dr Yadav told him.

Khanal also said that Nepali Congress President Girija Prasad Koirala, whom he met in the morning, was also serious about the current political situation. “All of you have to take the responsibility to resolve the problem,” Khanal quoted ailing Koirala as saying.
