‘Khas community must unite’

Kathmandu, June 11

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Woman, Children, and Social Welfare CP Mainali has said that everyone living in Nepal for a long time and holding a Nepali citizenship are indigenous people.

Speaking at a programme held to announce the establishment of United Khas Chhetri Nepal, DPM Mainali said, “The Khas Chhetri community is the largest community of a particular indigenity in Nepal, but they can only get their rights and recognition if the entire Khas community unites,” said DPM Mainali.

Chief patron of United Khas Chhetri Nepal, Himalaya Shumsher Rana, said the Khas Chhetri people have made a huge contribution to the country, and therefore they deserve special consideration by the government.

At the programme, United Khas Chhetri Nepal Chairperson Man Bahadur Thapa demanded fully proportional representation on the basis of caste distinction in all the state bodies.

Khas Chhetri Nepal has demanded independent identity and rights, formation of Indigenous Chhetri National Commission and reinstatement of multi-caste, multi-language, and multi-cultural  Hindu state.
