KHOTANG: A child on Monday died in a monkey trap in Khotang district.

The deceased has been identified as Prakash Rai, the 9-year-old son of Dil Kumar Rai of Chyasmitar-4 in the district.

Earlier, farmers had set the monkey trap in the forest, little farther from the village after the growing menaces of monkeys in the locality.

According to locals, Rai had gone to graze cows in the forest on Monday afternoon where he was crushed by the trap.

The body is being sent to the Khotang District Hospital for the postmortem. A team of police personnel has been deployed to investigate the incident, informed the DSP Bidyananda Majhi of District Police Office, Khotang.
