Khotang flood sweeps over dozen households, locals left in lurch

KHOTANG: A flood triggered by incessant rainfall on Saturday night swept away more than a dozen houses in Khidima of Khotang district, leaving their occupants in the lurch.

The victims submitted a memorandum at the District Administration Office on Wednesday demanding immediate relocation.

A local school teacher Yuvaraj Katwal said the families were displaced after the flood in Tawakhola rivulet swept away houses, lands, stored foods and livestock.

The villagers' delegation led by VDC Secretary Jaganath Phuyal also demanded that micro hydropower projects, suspension bridges, rural roads, water tanks and playground destroyed by the flood be reconstructed at the earliest.

They have sent the same appeal to other development-related government agencies in the district as well as political parties.

Mattim Area Police Post said the total loss caused by the flood amounts to Rs 125 million.
