Khotang sees increase in arrest of absconding convicts

KHOTANG: As many as 84 convicted criminals who had been absconding for long time have been arrested in Khotang district in last six months.

Those convicted criminals were presented before the District Court and have been sent to prison for execution of respective sentences.

Dal Bahadur Giri (68) of Aaiselukharka-4, Khotang was arrested after 20 years of his crime, on September 6, 2015.

He was sentenced to six months in prison by the Khotang District Court on August 31, 1998 for his alleged involvement in abortion procedure of a woman who had died later.

Similarly, Man Bahadur Sarki (50) of Kharpa-9, Khotang was also arrested after three years on September 6, 2014. He was sentenced to four years and 11 months in prison by the Khotang District Court on December 21, 2012 for assault charges.

Likewise, Pari Maya Rai (30) of Rajarani-7, who succeeded for disguising himself from police personal with fake name for more than 13 years, was finally arrested by police on October 16, 2015. She was convicted of a murder and was sentenced to 10 years in prison by the Court.

Earlier, she was introducing herself with an alias of Pramila to the police personnel who had gone to arrest her in her village.

However, after an intense interrogation by police, she had finally confessed her crime.

Likewise, Tek Bahadur Tamang who was absconding since being convicted of rape on February 5, 2015 was awarded an imprisonment of nine years and 10 months. He was also arrested recently.

According to Chairperson of District Women Protection Network and rights activist Purni Maya Tamang, recent arrests have given a strong message to the criminals who have been absconding for a long time that sooner or later they would be apprehended by the police.
