KHOTANG: An eight-year-old girl died and two persons were injured when a tractor met with an accident at Meghchautara in Khotang district on Friday.

The deceased has been identified as local resident Aasha Tamang.

A local said that the tractor (Na 4 Cha 5367) was returning from Laphyang to Hatdanda in Diktel Municipality-1 after unloading the stones when it fell some 10 feet down the road. Police have assumed that the vehicle failed to take a turn at a narrow road and met with the accident.

The injured are a two-and-half-year-old Aashish Tamang, local resident, and tractor helper Dinesh Rai (25) of Chyasmitaar-4.

Khotang District Police Office said the Aastha, Aashish and Dinesh were crushed by the tractor before they were rescued. Aastha had died on the spot, police added.

Preparations are underway to airlift the injured for further treatment.

Aasha's body has been kept at the District Hospital for postmortem.
