DAMAULI, MAY 28

Kidney patients have been facing problems after the dialysis machines went dysfunctional in Damauli Hospital, Tanahun.

Patients with kidney disease could not receive treatment after four machines in the hospital went out of function some days ago.

Administrative Chief Prem Singh Gurung at National Kidney Treatment Centre, Damauli, said the machines in the hospital did not work well and kidney patients were deprived of receiving timely dialysis.

He said that health workers could not provide treatment to kidney patients following the same.

Of the nine dialysis machines in the hospital, four have gone dysfunctional and five machines are working. Gurung said that the inflow of patients had increased as half the number of machines could be used for dialysis.

As many as 58 patients come to the hospital for regular dialysis.

Gurung said that 49 patients needed dialysis twice a week, while nine patients needed dialysis three times a week. According to the hospital, 13 health workers are deployed at the centre.

According to the hospital, as many as 220 patients have applied for dialysis. Most of the patients are waiting for dialysis. Gurung said that the machines had to be repaired as the materials had to be brought from Germany. The patients have been facing problems as the repair works have been delayed due to lack of materials.

Acting Chief Dr Diwas Dhakal at the hospital said that the patients were victimised as they could not receive timely treatment. He said that they would provide the treatment facility to the patients soon after the machines were repaired.

According to the hospital, patients from Tanahun, Lamjung, Gorkha, Kaski, Nawalparasi, and Syangja, among other districts, reach the hospital for dialysis.
