Kin file case against pharmacy operator after woman dies

PHIDIM, July 17

Death of a woman during treatment has led her kin to file a case against a pharmacy operator at Yasok of Panchthar.

Yam Kumari Dhamala, 45, of Yasok had died at Salina Medical Hall while undergoing treatment on Thursday night. Her husband Hem Raj Dhamala had taken her to the medical facility after she suffered from diarrhoea.

Hem Raj lodged a complaint at District Police Office on Friday, stating that Yam Kumari had died due to negligence on the part of Posh Raj Trital, the medical hall operator.

According to him, Yam Kumari’s condition had worsened when Trital ‘treated her’ at his pharmacy.

“He asked her if she was feeling better after the first treatment. She said she wasn’t, so he gave her another injection. When she didn’t feel any better even after the second injection, he fed her an entire bottle of syrup at once. She died soon after she was fed the drug,” he claimed.

Trital, also the in-charge of Ranigaun Sub-health Post, has been running the medical store for many years.

District Police Office Inspector Rabi Raj Thapaliya said the incident was a mystery. “We have been investigating what type of medicine was administered and its quantity,” he said.

Last rites of Yam Kumar were performed on Friday after post-mortem at the District Hospital. The police administration is yet to arrest Trital.

Hem Raj’s family said that the couple’s son had also died during course of treatment at the same pharmacy 10 years ago. They added that the kid had died because they took him to the pharmacy after his condition worsened.
