Kathmandu, May 17:

At an interaction on ‘Present situation of the nation and the achievement of the government’ organised by the Media Group Nepal today, participants said the King and political parties should come to a consensus in order to restore peace.

“The King and political parties seem to be on a course of collision. Without a consensus between the two powers, peace will not prevail in the nation,” said member of the National Assembly Deepak Gurung.

Another member of the National Assembly, Ram Jivan Singh, said the government should be reconstituted and the members should include representatives of parliamentary parties that will strengthen the government and attract international support.

Regarding the present government, he said there is a lack of mechanism to establish peace, adding that with the government’s present structure it would be difficult to implement a strategy to achieve peace.

Recalling political parties’ stance to reinstate the lower house, Singh said the Constitution is now in the ‘ICU’, and if the lower house is reinstated, it will die. Former minister Badri Prasad Mandal hailed the Royal takeover calling it to be a step taken in compulsion. “It is just like presidential rule in India.”
