Koshi victims padlock govt offices

Itahari, March 29:

Koshi Victims’ Struggle Committee today padlocked the District Agriculture Office and Live Stock Office in Sunsari today. According to coordinator of the struggle committee Panchanarayan Mandal, their seven demands include the implementation of the report prepared by Koshi Victims’ High Level Working Committee and free education for the children of the flood victims for three years.

He threaten to intensify the agitation if their demands were not met by the government at the earliest.

Up to 50,000 villagers of six VDCs were displaced by the swollen Koshi last year. Though the river has been forced to return to its course, the victims are yet to return to their homes due to the ongoing construction of the river embankment.

The Koshi victims had obstructed vehicular movement in Sunsari district for 13 consecutive days in the past.

The committee has warned of similar protests to pressure the government to implement the report submitted by the Koshi Victims’ High Level Working Committee.
