‘Oli govt against federalism’

Damauli, September 4

Senior Nepali Congress leader Ramchandra Paudel today accused the incumbent KP Sharma Oli-led government of acting against federalism.

Speaking at an interaction organised by Reporters’ Club Nepal, Tanahun, in Damauli, Paudel said the government was working to centralise power and authority instead of delegating them to the local levels and provinces.

“Efforts to bring all powers and rights under the prime minister shows that the government is not willing to implement federalism,” Paudel said. He argued that government’s steps to terrorise constitutional bodies and intervention in affairs of the apex Court, showed that the government was moving on the path of totalitarianism.

Paudel stated that the government had become dysfunctional in terms of development and good governance. He accused the government of failing to take action against people involved in irregularities during the purchase of two wide-body aircraft. He demanded that the government bring out the facts related to the case pronto.

Paudel stressed the need to implement decisions made during the recent Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation summit Kathmandu.

Paudel said his party would end factionalism and bridge the differences and emerge as the largest party in the next general polls. He said it would be quite early to say whether he would vie for the post of party president.
