KATHMANDU, MAY 3
Norwegian woman climber Kristin Harila has completed all 14 peaks above 8,000m after she stood atop Mt Cho Oyu this morning, expedition organiser said.
Mingma Sherpa, Managing Director at Climbalaya Treks, said that Kristin along with Tenjen Sherpa and Ngima Rita Sherpa scaled Cho Oyu from Tibetan side. Kristin climbed Mt Shishapangma last Wednesday.
Kristin, who holds multiple fastest climbing records, also became the first woman climber to make the fastest ascent of 14 peaks above 8,000m, the organiser said. The expedition "She Moves Mountain" for Kristin Harila was jointly organized by Seven Summit Treks and Climbalaya Treks.
The 37-year-old climber started her record-setting bid scaling Mt Annapurna I, the tenth highest peak in the world, on April 28, 2022.
Kristin scaled Mt Manaslu on September 22, 2022 completing her 12th 8000er in less than five months.
Eberhard Jurgalski, in a report on 8000ers.com, mentioned that celebrated climber Nirmal 'Nims' Purja has scaled 14 peaks including fore-summits of Dhaulagiri and Manaslu in just six months and seven days. Nims had rescaled Mt Manaslu and Mt Dhaulagiri in 2021 to reach the true summits. Nimsdai had completed all 14 peaks in two years, five months and 15 days, the report said. But, Kristin Harila reached all true summits completing 14 peaks in just one year and five days.
