Lack of docs hits parturition services

Gaighat, January 8

Parturition services have been halted at Udayapur District Hospital for the past one month for want of doctors.

Hospital Chief Dr Bishnu Bahadur Basnet said they could not provide parturition service after gynaecologists Dr Pawan Sah and Dr Bishal Dev were transferred from the district hospital.

“We will not be able to provide parturition service until gynaecologists are deployed at the hospital,” said Dr Basnet.

Dr Basnet said he could not exactly tell when the centre would send doctors.

The hospital had started providing parturition service after it was upgraded to a 50-bed hospital from 25.

Patients from various parts of Udayapur and Khotang visit the hospital for the service.

The closure of parturition service has forced patients to go outside the district where they have to pay exorbitant fees.

“I requested the province minister to manage doctors immediately after two gynaecologists were transferred. But, sadly, doctors have not been deployed,” according to Hospital Development Committee Chair Khadga Pariyar.
