KATHMANDU, MARCH 19

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) has urged the public to adopt precautionary measures in view of the possibility of heavy rainfall and storms over the next three days.

Issuing a press release on Thursday, the NDRRMA called on everyone to remain alert. According to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, heavy rainfall and snowfall are forecast in the hilly and mountainous regions of Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces over the next three days.

High-speed winds are also likely to occur in Dang, Nepalgunj, and the Tarai areas of Lumbini Province. The Department further stated that storms with wind speeds of up to 119 kilometres per hour may affect Biratnagar, Dhankuta, Dharan, and surrounding districts until Saturday.

It warned that such winds could pose significant risks, potentially causing structural damage and disrupting electricity and communication services.

Ram Bahadur KC, Under-Secretary at the NDRRMA, has urged residents in the affected areas to avoid unnecessary travel, remain in safe locations, and suspend vehicle operations to minimise potential damage and harm.
