KATHMANDU, JULY 1

National Independent Party opened by former TV anchor Rabi Lamichhane was registered with the Election Commission today.

Election Commission Spokesperson Shaligram Poudel said, "The commission has rejected all complaints against the party's name. The commission has ruled that there is no justification for the complaint as there is no provision in the act to name the party on the basis of any name."

Poudel further added that nothing had been found against the registration of the party and the commission had looked into everything and approved the registration. There were two complaints against Lamichhane's party with the commission demanding that the word 'independent' should not be used in the name of the party.

On Party announcement day CPN- UML Politburo member Surya Thapa has said that the National Independent Party should not be registered by the Election Commission.

The party has got "bell in a circle" as its election symbol. Lamichhane has shown keen interest to contest in the upcoming parliamentary and provincial election. Including the National Independent Party the total number of political parties in the country has reached 113 for the upcoming HoR and provincial elections.
