Land rights body stages sit-in

Kathmandu, February 24:

The National Land Rights Forum (NLRF) and Women Rights Network today staged a sit-in in front of the Kathmandu District Administration Office for two hours.

Som Prasad Bhandari, general secretary of NLRF, told this daily that the sit-in was organised to express solidarity with the ongoing protest of landless people in several districts and to draw the attention of ministers concerned and CA members to the plight of landless people.

Despite an agreement with the government on November 29 last year to allow the landless

people to keep living in places where they have currently been living until a new solution was found to their problem, local administration and forest officials in Siraha demolished the huts of around 150 people in Taregana Govindapur VDC on February 17, said Bhandari.
