KATHMANDU, SEPTEMBER 11

Residents living along the Hunga Khola and Dudhkoshi River in Solukhumbu have been urged to remain highly alert after a landslide temporarily blocked the Hunga Khola in Mahakulung Rural Municipality.

According to the Flood Forecasting Division, the river flow has resumed partially, but riverside and surrounding communities have been advised to remain cautious until another notice is issued.

The landslide occurred at around 7:00am Friday in wards 2 and 4 of Mahakulung Rural Municipality, approximately 100 metres downstream from the head office of Gaurishankar Hydropower. Officials said the landslide was about 35 metres high and blocked the stream.

The District Administration Office, Solukhumbu, had earlier warned that the blockage could cause unusual increases in downstream river flow.

Although the flow has since resumed, authorities stressed that the risk of sudden surges remains, urging residents to stay vigilant until conditions stabilize.
