Landslide cuts off access to remote Gumba village

Bajura, August 11

Gumba village, a far flung village in Bajura, has been completely cut off from the rest of the district after landslide triggered by incessant rainfall swept away the wooden bridges built over the two rivulets that connected the village with other parts of the district.

Gumba village of Himali Rural Municipality-3 has no communication service and the village is a four day’s walk from the district headquarters Martadai.

Tshering Dhorche Lama, a local, said locals faced such problems every year as the state did not show seriousness to construct permanent bridges over the rivers.

As many as 25 families are living in Gumba village. Ward secretary of the ward GaurikantaSanjel said the villagers were completely cut off from the other part of the district and they were also deprived of communication services.

Sanjel said no one from the village was in contact with district headquarters following the incessant rainfall in the district.

Locals had to visit the health posts in Kolti and Martadi from Gumba village putting their lives at a risk even in winter. Locals have to cross the two rivulets to reach Bichhaya. A local said the they were facing a hard time due to frequent road obstruction.

The government neither constructed the bridge nor opened an alternative road to reach Gumba village.
