KATHMANDU, SEPTEMBER 26
Landslides triggered by incessant rainfall have obstructed the Jomsom-Korala section of the national highway at multiple locations, disrupting road connectivity with China.
According to the District Police Office, Mustang, the highway has been blocked at Kalobhir above Chaile village in Baragung Muktichhetra, along the Kagbeni-Tangbe section and at Selfie Danda in Ghami of Loghekar Damodarkunda Rural Municipality-2.
Police Inspector Santosh Basyal said debris at Selfie Danda had been cleared, but the road remained blocked at Kalobhir and the Kagbeni-Tangbe section. A team from the Kagbeni Police Post has been deployed to the latter location to clear the obstruction.
The road disruption has affected the movement of goods along the Nepal-China trade route. Hundreds of electric vehicles imported from China have also reportedly been stranded in Jomsom.
Meanwhile, landslides have occurred at more than six locations along the Beni-Jomsom road section following continuous rainfall since Friday night, according to Beni-Jomsom-Korala Road Project chief Tejaswi Sharma.
Traffic has been disrupted at Ghasabagar, while falling rocks continue to pose a risk at Kabhre Bhir. Landslides above the road at Sirubari, Tatopani, Rupse and Pokharebagar in Myagdi have also affected traffic, Sharma said.
