Bajura, September 16

Vehicular movement has been obstructed due to landslides that occurred last night along the Sanphe-Martadi road section at Balde of Budhiganga Municipality in Bajura.

Locals have been facing a hard time as the road has yet to come into operation. Transportation service along the road section was obstructed completely due to landslides for the past two days.

It has not been possible to supply materials to the northern part of the district due to landslides. Ganesh Thapa, a local, said short and long route vehicles have been stranded at Balde Bazaar.

Chief District Officer Ganga Prasad Neupane said the problem remained the same due to continuous rainfall even though they were holding talks with the Sanphe Road Division Office.

According to the division office, it was very difficult to resume transportation service as rainwater had swept the road away and in other places the road had caved in.

The landslides occurred because the Budhiganga River eroded the land rapidly.

Civil Society leader Sher Bahadur Shahi said the landslides had been putting the Sanphe-Martadi road section at high risk every year. He said the road section was obstructed due to  landslides time and again in the rainy season. Shahi said the road section was obstructed three times due to the landslides last year. Locals complained that the authority concerned had paid no heed despite their frequent requests to remedy the problem.
