Heavy rainfall, landslides and flooding have disrupted traffic on several major highways across the country, with some roads completely blocked and others closed during night hours due to safety concerns.
According to the Nepal Police road update issued at 7:50 am today, the BP Highway section between Khurkot, Nepalthok and Katunjebesi has been closed to all vehicles from 6:00 pm to 4:00 am because of the risk of flooding. Night-time restrictions also remain in place on the Kanti Lokpath, where traffic is prohibited from 5:00 pm to 5:00 am.
Several highways have been fully blocked by landslides and river erosion. The Mechi Highway in Ilam Municipality-9 has become impassable after continuous rain turned the road muddy. On the Araniko Highway in Sindhupalchok, landslides at Jiro Kilo and Kodari have halted traffic completely.
The Lamosangu-Ramechhap road in Dolakha has also been blocked after the Samakoshi River eroded a section of the road at Kirnetar. Similarly, the Pasang Lhamu Highway in Rasuwa has been cut off after the Trishuli River washed away part of the roadway at Khalte.
Elsewhere, a dry landslide has blocked the Kanti Lokpath in Bagmati Rural Municipality of Lalitpur, while flooding at Mulpani Khola has rendered the Jajarkot-Dolpa road impassable.
Police have urged travellers to check the latest road conditions with the relevant authorities before setting out, warning that the risk of landslides, flooding and road washouts remains high during the monsoon season.
