Landslides obstruct Sanfe-Martadi road section
Bajura, August 5
Continuing rainfall has triggered landslides, badly affecting the Sanfe-Martadi road section in Bajura.
While many roads have been blocked by landslides at a number of places, some are covered in mud and pose a great risk to vehicles. Of the 57 km road that stretches from Achham’s Sanfe to Bajura’s Martadi, only around 29 km is black-topped.
According to a local Lal Kunwar, the road section is at the threat of being swept away at Budhabagar in Achham. “As the Budhiganga River is eroding the road every year, the river can sweep the road at any time if the rain continues,” he said.
Meanwhile, obstructions along the road has posed a great difficulty to the locals. As transportation of goods and commodities has been affected, prices of daily essentials have shot up in the district headquarters Martadi and other places in the north, including Kolti.
