KATHMANDU, FEBRUARY 9
Lawmakers have called on the government to address the escalating threat posed by wild animals in eastern Nepal and the growing monkey menace in hilly regions.
Speaking during the Zero Hour session of the National Assembly (NA) today, Rukmini Koirala highlighted that residents of Jhapa, Morang, Sunsari, and Udayapur districts continue to live in fear due to wild animal attacks. She urged the government to implement immediate and effective measures to mitigate the situation.
Similarly, Bishnudevi Pudasaini noted that many farmers have abandoned agriculture due to persistent monkey invasions, forcing them to leave their lands uncultivated. She proposed that the government provide technical assistance to affected farmers, encouraging them to cultivate high-value crops such as ginger, garlic, and stinging nettle.
Krishna Prasad Adhikari called for the reinstatement of the Usury Investigation Commission to address financial exploitation, while Renu Chand demanded strict action against those responsible for the recent killings of two teenage girls in Achham.
Other NA members, including Jitjung Basnet, Padam Bahadur Pariyar, Manarupa Sharma, Bishnu Kumari Sapkota, and Sabitri Malla, raised concerns over rising market prices and other contemporary issues, urging the government to take swift action.
