Funuru Sherpa, the ward chairperson and social worker from Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality-1, Solukhumbu, has distributed down jackets to the residents of his ward.

Recognizing the challenges posed by the harsh winter weather, Sherpa provided 321 jackets, valued at approximately Rs 963,000, to vulnerable groups and essential workers in the ward. The beneficiaries included persons with disabilities, elderly individuals, single women, school teachers, monastery lamas, police personnel, ward representatives, and health institution staff.

The initiative was made possible through the generous contributions of several individuals and organizations including Pasang Chhiri Sherpa, Director of Dream Carrier Treks & Expeditions with Rs 200,000, Ongchu Sherpa Trust with Rs 50,000, Mingma Sherpa, MD of Climbalaya Treks & Expeditions & Congress President of Ward-5 with Rs 50,000, Social Worker Pema Chewang Sherpa from the USA with Rs 40,000, Nima Chhiri Sherpa, MD of Go to Himalaya Treks with Rs 30,000, Sonam Geljen Sherpa, General Secretary of TAAN & North Extreme Himalaya with Rs 20,000, and Pasang Dawa Sherpa, Nepali Congress President of Ward-4 with Rs 10,000. The remaining amount, approximately Rs 650,000, was personally contributed by Funuru Sherpa.

Funuru Sherpa, a long-time figure in the tourism industry, has consistently worked for the betterment of his community. His past contributions to the Khumbu region include, establishing a hospital that significantly reduced maternal and infant mortality rates, arranging free education for underprivileged students, benefiting over 155 students at Chaurikharka Secondary School, building a 19 kW micro-hydropower project in Paiya, providing electricity to over 130 households.

He also reconstructed 12 earthquake-damaged houses and handed them over to affected families. He was also involved in distributing essential food supplies such as rice, lentils, sugar, and oil to ward residents during the pandemic.
