Lawyers accused of evading taxes

Kathmandu, March 18:

The Judiciary Officers’ Society (JOS) today accused the lawyers of evading taxes.

In an 11-point memorandum submitted to Chief Justice Kedar Prasad Giri, Law, Justice and CA Affairs Minister Dev Gurung and Supreme Court Justice Min Bahadur Rayamajhi, the society also opposed the lawyer’s demand for appointment of 50 per cent judges from the lawyer’s community.

At a press conference, the society stated that the lawyers in the country were less competent than the court officials and they should not be favoured for appointment as judges.

The officials also claimed that some of the incumbent judges had earlier flunked the Public Service Commission examination.

“We cannot disclose their names because they are now holding the prestigious posts but we

have such examples,” said general secretary of the society and assistant spokesperson for the Supreme Court Hemanta Rawal.
