Leaders express commitment
KATHMANDU: Top leadership of both ruling and opposition parties on Thursday expressed commitment to take the transitional justice process to its logical conclusion at the earliest.
Speaking at an interaction in Kathmandu, Co-chairperson of ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) Pushpa Kamal Dahal conceded that the top political leadership was responsible for delay in the transitional justice process.
Dahal, who led the 10-year Maoist rebellion as its supreme commander, said he would take moral and political responsibility for the insurgency and face consequences if held guilty. Dahal, however, said things had now changed and both the ruling and opposition parties had realised their mistakes and were committed to resolving the issue ‘once and for all’.
Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba also said they were committed to ending the transitional justice process by listening to those victimised by both the state and Maoists. “We need to resolve this through reconciliation to establish perennial peace,” he said.
Senior NCP leader Madhav Kumar Nepal said those involved in severe violation of human rights should not be granted amnesty. He said everybody should adopt forward-looking approach to resolve the issue.
