Left task forces fail to submit report; deadline extended

Kathmandu, March 9

Two task forces formed by the left alliance of the CPN-UML and the CPN-Maoist Centre to finalise organisational structure, interim statute and interim political document of the unified party have failed to submit their reports.

The task forces were mandated to submit their reports to UML Chairman and Prime Minister KP Oli and CPN-MC Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal by today.

The two parties had on February 20 formed the task forces — including 10 members each with five representatives from each party — to finalise organisational structure of the unified party, and interim political report and interim statute to expedite unification as per the seven-point agreement signed between the parties on February 19.

CPN-MC leader Ram Bahadur Thapa-led task force, which has been mandated to finalise the organisational structure, include Ishwor Pokhrel, Bishnu Paudel, Gokarna Bista, Bedu Ram Bhusal and Raghuveer Mahaseth from the UML and Giri Raj Mani Pokharel, Barsha Man Pun, Matrika Yadav and Janardan Sharma from the CPN-MC.

The task force formed to finalise interim political report and interim statute is led by senior UML leader Madhav Kumar Nepal. Other members include Bhim Rawal, Subas Nembang, Pradeep Gyawali and Raghuji Panta from the UML and Narayan Kaji Shrestha, Dev Gurung, Shakti Basnet, Pampha Bhusal and Devendra Paudel from the CPN-MC.

Member of the Nepal-led task force Paudel said they could not submit the report today because the leaders got busy with the parliamentary meetings and election of the president, vice-president, speaker and deputy speaker. The task forces’ deadline has now been extended until March 19, said Paudel.

“It does not mean that we could not do anything. Things are moving ahead, but the work got disrupted as leaders got busy with parliamentary meetings and election for constitutional posts,” he said. He also said that the task force world again meet tomorrow.
