Lekhi blames Madhesi leaders for failed agitation
Rajbiraj, March 28
Nagarik Samajbadi Party coordinator Raj Kumar Lekhi has rued the fate of ‘inconclusive’ Madhes and Tharuhat agitations, blaming the same on the selfish nature of a few Madhesi and Tharuhat leaders.
“At a time when the crusade was on for the genuine concerns of rights, justice and equality for the oppressed lot, leaders like Bijaya Kumar Gachhadar gave up on their own communities and
endeared themselves with the rulers, which was unfortunate,” argued Lekhi, speaking at a press conference organised by the party here today.
“In fact, we need to punish such leaders who are acting against their own people and communities.
As we are the ones who voted them to power, we also have the right to take action against them if need be,” he said, also criticising the government for the atrocities during the agitation.
Describing the Tikapur incident as an expression of the outburst of anger of the oppressed lot, the Tharu leader declared that the fight for rights would not relent without achieving its end and added, “For this, there is no option for the oppressed communities but to be united and launch a decisive fight.”
Lekhi scoffed at Dr. Baburam Bhattarai’s party. “The so-called Naya Shakti party is nothing other than a politics of the former prime minister in the name of a new party,” he remarked.
