Kathmandu: Stating that the Nepali Congress (Democratic) no longer thinks monarchy as indispensable, the party president Sher Bahadur Debua today called on the people to decide the fate of monarchy through the elections to a Constituent Assembly (CA).

Deuba was addressing party workers at the inaugural session of a two-day workshop. Party vice-president Bimalendra Nidhi came up with similar views on the matter.

The NC (D) leadership is organising the workshop to get to know the views of its former lawmakers, former central members and representatives of sister organisations of the party on the issues ranging from the CA, social inclusion to peace-building.

Nidhi will present the views of the party on terms of reference of the CA elections, interim government, interim constitution, restructuring of the state and the fate of the monarchy on Sunday.

The party has yet to make a decision on what suggestions it should offer to the Interim Constitution Drafting Committee, with the crucial issue for the party being the status of the monarch prior to the CA polls.
