BAJURA, MARCH 01
A two-month old infant of Muktikot in Swamikartik Khaapar Rural Municipality-1 is suffering from malnutrition with his health and well-being at risk.
The infant's condition has worsened as the mother, Reli BK, is herself suffering from malnutrition. BK did not lactate after the birth of her child and hence could not breastfeed. The infant has been given powdered milk. In lack of treatment and intervention, the family is facing a hard time.
BK has already lost three of her children to malnutrition. She and her family, which includes her husband, a person with vision impairment, sustain their lives by borrowing from others. This, however, is not sufficient to fulfill their basic needs.
The mother shared her grievances that the local health post could not treat her child due to lack of baby food 'Lito' and not being equipped to treat malnourished children. She added that they are unable to take their child elsewhere for treatment in lack of finances.
Muktikot village is reported to be one of the most impoverished villages. Locals in the village shared that drought has reduced their food production which barely lasts a month.
According to rural municipality chair Chiranjeebi Shahi, malnutrition is rampant in the village but information on such a child (referring to BK's infant) has not been received. The chairperson has assured of support if such information is provided.
