KATHMANDU, DECEMBER 1

Nearly 62% of eligible voters participated in the by-election held across various local levels to fill 41 vacant posts, the Election Commission (EC) reported.

According to EC Spokesperson Nita Pokharel Aryal, approximately 62% of the 226,799 registered voters cast their ballots, based on preliminary data received so far.

The by-election aimed to fill 41 positions, including one mayor, two deputy mayors, two rural municipality chairs, four rural municipality deputy chairs, and 33 ward chairs at the local level.

The EC confirmed that voting was conducted peacefully at all polling centers from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

Following the completion of the polls, the EC has directed officials to begin vote counting after securing the ballot boxes.

The Commission also extended its gratitude to the federal, provincial, and local governments for their support, coordination, and cooperation in ensuring the successful conduct of the election.
