Local levels mull disaster management preparedness

RATNANAGAR, CHITWAN: The disaster management committee in Chitwan has begun discussion with local levels on disaster management preparedness.

Chief District Officer and Disaster Management Committee Coordinator Narayan Prasad Bhatta informed that the district suffers from floods and landslides.

Discussion has been initiated for the preparedness, he said.

According to Bhatta, the discussion was held with the representatives of political parties, entrepreneurs and chiefs of the local levels with an aim to form a cluster on disaster preparedness and conduct activities to reduce the risks.

The district has been divided in three clusters; eastern Chitwan, Bharatpur and western Chitwan. Human resources could be mobilised in the areas as per need to minimise damages.

Chief of Rapti Municipality said, “Many people are killed in floods in the district every year. So, everyone's attention was drawn towards how the loss of lives and damage of properties could be minimised.”

Similarly, Senior Agriculture Development Officer Sudhir Shrestha informed the meeting about the scheme through which grants are provided to earthquake and flood affected farmers in the district.

Similarly, Chief of District Traffic Office, Santosh Pant, presented a proposal for the arrangement of necessary things in view of the road accidents occurring in different places along the Narayangadh-Muglin road.
