Rajbiraj, January 26
A dispute over preventing grazing on the premises of the health post in Chhinnamasta Rural Municipality, Saptari, has led to thrashing of an elected local representative and his family.
Member of Ward No 5 of Chhinnamasta Rural Municipality Yogendra Sharma and his father and son were beaten by a group of locals led by Jayanath Sharma yesterday.
The injured are undergoing treatment at Rajbiraj-based Chhinnamasta Hospital.
While the ward member and his father have received bruises all over their bodies, his son's arm was fractured.
The land of the health post was donated by Jayanath's father Chhotkain Sharma.
While the construction of the health post has been completed, construction of a birthing centre in the same land is in the final phase.
As learnt, a dispute ensued after the ward member Sharma and the health post chief Rajababu Mehta scolded Jayanath's son who had taken his goats to the health post ground to graze. "We've grown a garden in the compound of the health post, so we asked them many times to stop grazing their goats in the compound. Yesterday too, they came to graze their goats and when we prevented them, they picked an issue citing that they couldn't be prevented from grazing their goats in the land donated by their family and attacked us," said ward member Yogendra.
