Local reps initiate dengue control drive

Local representatives launched dengue control awareness campaign in Golbazaar Municipality of Siraha district today.

A team of local representatives launched door-to-door awareness campaign in different areas of the municipality. The team visited houses of local residents and explained that dengue virus spread from water in flower vase, air-condition, water tank and plastic utensils, among other things.

Mayor Devnath Sah said local representatives, civil servants, local entrepreneurs and social workers among others visited houses of people to spread awareness about dengue virus.

“Dengue has spread due to our own negligence and it can be taken under control by adopting some simple measures.” Sah added they reached out to the locals as part of the dengue control campaign.

Pawan Panjiyar, chief of Health Department in the municipality, said the team visited houses, shops and garages and destroyed larvae of dengue causing mosquitoes. As many as nine people were infected with dengue virus at Golbazaar and one person was infected with the disease in Dhangadhimai Municipality till date.

Vector Control Inspector Aandeshwor Prasad Chaudhary in District Public Health Office, Siraha, said dengue virus was transferred by female Aedes aegypti mosquito. He said the mosquito lived in clean and stable water.

“We can be protected from dengue virus if we adopt safety measures from the months of October to December,” said Public Health Inspector Saroj Karna. He advised to keep the surroundings and water tanks clean and to use mosquito nets while sleeping.
