KATHMANDU: Three young Nepali mountaineers have successfully summitted three virgin mountains in the Rolwaling Valley of Dolakha district bordering Tibet, exploring the new adventure opportunities for the world climbers in Nepal’s Himalayan regions.

Nima Tenji Sherpa, Dawa Gyalje Sherpa and Tashi Sherpa summitted Mt Langdak (6,220 m), Mt Raungsiyar (6,224 m) and Mt Thakar-Go East (6,152 m) becoming the first ever Nepali team to successfully climb the Rolwaling peaks.

According to Mingma Sherpa, one of the expedition organisers, the trio climbed Mt Thakar-Go East on Tuesday while they made successful ascent of Mt Langdak and Mt Rongsiyar in the last two days.

“Nepali team climbed these peaks in an alpine style,” he said, adding that the first ascent would certainly explore a positive message among the world mountaineers.

The route to Mt Thakar-Go was more on a sharp ridge while climbers could view Mt Everest, Mt Kanchenjunga, Mt Lhotse and Mt Makalu among others from the top of Mt Langdak,” Sherpa quoted Nima Tenji as saying.

According to National Mountain Guide Association, all three climbers are trained and certified mountain guides.

The Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation opened these mountains for climbing in 2014.

Teenager summits Mt Manaslu

Japan's teenage climber Marin Minamaya became the world’s youngest woman to successfully climb the world’s eighth highest peak.

According to Daniel Mazur of SummitClimb, 18-year-old Minamaya stood atop the Mt Manaslu on October 1, beating the earlier record by Bonita Norris, a British climber who summitted the peak at the age of 21 in 2010.

Murari Sharma, Managing director at Everest Parivar Trek, said that the youngest climber was also felicitated amid a function in Kathmandu on Monday.

“Minamaya was a part of 15-member expedition led by Mazur,” he added.

According to him, Minamaya also became the youngest Japanese female climber to successfully ascent a peak above 8,000 m.

In 1974, an all-female team from Japan reached Mt Manaslu's summit, the first women to successfully climb an 8,000 m mountain.

According the Department of Tourism, at least 80 climbers including 47 foreigners successfully climbed Mt Manaslu in the autumn season while Boyan Petrov became the first Bulgarian to summit the peak.

Gyanendra Shrestha, an official at DoT, informed that the DoT has already issued climbing permits to 92 teams as over 550 climbers attempt to climb different peaks in the autumn season.
