Local women launch sanitation campaign
Bajura, April 5
Women of Nawa Village in Budhiganga Municipality have started a campaign to develop their village as a model village in terms of sanitation in Bajura. As many as 19 Dalit households are settled in the village.
Budhiganga Municipality Mayor Dipak Bikram Shah said local women formed a group and started the campaign. The group has launched public awareness programme for sanitation in different toles and areas of the municipality.
Women’s Group Secretary Sarita Thapa said the drive launched by local women has yielded positive results. The group has also established Sanitation Fund through community organisation.
In-charge at Tante Health Post Dipak Shah said, “Earlier, the villagers had fallen ill due to stench from garbage.” The women’s movement now serves as an example. Shah said that the number of people falling ill had declined after the sanitation campaign started.
District Drinking Water and Sanitation Sub-division Office Chief Krishna Bogati said government and non-government organisations have been helping to establish the village as a model village. Earlier, the women were also actively involved in making the village an open defecation free zone.
