Locals on Wednesday blocked the Mechi highway in protest after Young Communist League cadres manhandled a businessman Lakpa Lama of Kanyam ward number 8 in Ilam on Tuesday. The cadres of the Young Communist League attacked Lama on Tuesday night, according to locals. Lama is undergoing treatment in Kanchanjunga Hospital at Birtamod. Due to the highway blockade, the movement of vehicles to and from Ilam to Taplejung, Panchthar, Jhapa districts, and from Jhapa to Taplejung was disrupted. Hundreds of passengers were stranded all day long.
