Locals brawl over road expansion project, ward chair injured

RAUTAHAT: Two persons including chair of Ward-6 of Rautahat Municipality have sustained injuries on Monday after locals brawled over ongoing road expansion project in the area.

The project had come to a halt after municipality failed to clarify its restriction vis-a-vis construction of a house undertaken by local Nek Mohamad of the ward. As the expansion project was halted for long, locals engaged in discussions exchanged heated debate which erupted in violent clash.

According to Area Police Unit, Rajpur, cadres of Nepali Congress and Left Alliance had set up a meeting to resolve the dispute. Although the landowner had come to terms, the cadres enforced a clash, informed police.

During the brawl, Ward Chair of Rajpur Municipality-6, Sheik Mojare Alam sustained critical injuries in his head while Left Alliance cadre Mohamad Mustak suffered serious eye injury. The injured are undergoing treatment at District Hospital, Gaur.

According to Deputy Superintendent of Police, Ram Kumar Dani, detailed investigation of the case is under way and legal actions will follow.
