RAUTAHAT, NOVEMBER 21

Locals are compelled to cross the Lalbakaiya River through a bamboo bridge putting their lives at risk in Rautahat.

The bamboo bridge connects the district headquarters Gaur and Ishanath Municipality. Locals said that construction of the bridge could not gain momentum in the last eight years as hardly 60 per cent work has been completed all these years. They said that the authority concerned had paid no attention to ensure that the bridge was constructed on time.

Hundreds of people in Ishanath and Paroha municipalities are compelled to cross the river using a dilapidated bamboo bridge to reach the district headquarters every day.

Ishanath Municipality Mayor Santosh Meheta earlier had taken the initiative to construct a diversion.

But the bridge construction has been left in the limbo after Meheta did not pay attention to bridge construction work this year. Staffers at the municipality have to travel extra seventeen kilometres due to lack of bridge.

The then prime minister Sushil Koirala had laid the foundation stone of the bridge in 2017. Pappu Construction had taken responsibility to complete the work, but only 60 per cent work has been completed so far.

Ward 4 Chair of Gaur Municipality Bhunendra Shah said that the authority concerned did not pay heed to the problems faced by the people due to lack of bridge over the river.

Many people have lost their lives while crossing the river using the dilapidated bamboo bridge, but the authorities concerned are least bothered.
