Locals demand relocation of settlement

Gaighat, August 8

Locals of Pokharigaun in Udayapur’s Rautamai Rural Municipality-5 have demanded that they be relocated as they were facing risk of landslide.

“Landslide first occurred in the second week of July and it has yet to stop. As there are chances of the entire hill above the village collapsing as boulders are still falling from above, it’s not safe for people,” said ward Chair Pandav Rai.

Rautamai Rural Municipality Chair Gajendra Khadka had sought help from the localadministration. A team led by CDO Dhruva Bahadur Khadka monitored the village yesterday.

CDO Khadka said discussions were on with local representatives regarding where to relocate the villagers.

“The risk is very obvious, so there is no option to relocation. We’re searching for a place,” said the rural municipality chief.

There are around two dozen households in Pokharigaun village.
