Locals pull down huts to expand highway section

Dhading, October 15

Residents along the Prithivi Highway section in Dhading have taken initiatives to expand the road in their localities. Earlier, the locals had obstructed a road expansion drive.

They took the initiatives after the number of road accidents increased in their areas, including Mahadevbenshi, Simle, Galchhi, Bairani, Aadamghat and Gajuri, due to the narrow road. Residents along the highway and Tribhuvan Rajpath have also started removing huts built on the roadside.

Adamghat Bazar Management Committee Chairman Binod Bhandari said a five metres wide footpath would be constructed on either sides of the road. The Department of Road and the local administration had been struggling to expand the road since many years due to local obstructions.

Rajendra Bikram Basnet chairperson of Gajuri Rural Municipality said this time, locals spontaneously started to expand the road after the conclusion of the civic polls.
