Low cost weddings getting popular

Krishna Prasad Dahal of Chandranigahapur, Rautahat district, did not invite many people to attend his marriage ceremony, thereby saving money on the occasion. His marriage to Nirmala Marahtha of Chhatiwan, Makwanpur district took place at Bhutandevi temple in Hetauda.

Similarly, Dhruba Adhikari of Hetauda-6, got married to Suntali Sharma of Nijgadha, Bara without incurring any unnecessary expenditure, in the same month. And the marriage was also held at the same temple. Shiva Prasad Dotel of Chaughada, Hetauda municipality made a young lady of Chhatiwa his wife in the same less costly manner.

In this way, these marriage ceremonies taking place without the exorbitant expenditure, is challenging the traditional lavish marriage-cult. The marriage ceremonies of Krishna, Dhruba and Shiva are not only examples, but also the first of such kind of marriages to be held here. However, people have taken this way of getting married in a positive outlook.

There are still some people, who believe in a traditionally luxurious marriage event. According to them "Marriage is an occasion which takes place only once in life. It should be organised in such way that neighbours, friends and all relatives should be involved." Those who uphold the traditional way of carrying out the ceremony with great pomp and splendour feel prestigious and enjoy spending a lot of money on it and they never hesitate about competing with their friends and relatives in such matters.

However, instead of incurring unnecessary expenditure at the time of marriage, the local youths of Hetauda are following this modern method of performing marriage with less expenditure.
