LPG, fuel crunch affects Tanahun

Damauli, September 30

Locals in Tanahun district are reeling under acute shortage of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) after the supply of cooking gas has halt due to the protracted Tarai bandh.

Sources at different dealers said that stock has been cleared and they are unable to get their hands on diesel and petrol following the same. Almost all the vehicles have been parked in garages following the crunch.

Basanta Bahadur Ale of Byas Municipality said that despite queuing for a whole day he had to return empty-handed as suppliers ran out of petrol.

Central Secretary Dinesh Shrestha of Gas Dealers’ Association Nepal said that locals of the district have been facing acute shortage of cooking gas. “The loaded trucks have been stopped in the border point at Raxaul for the last one week,” he said.

As many as three dozen gas depots have been selling LPG in Tanahun. Shrestha, who is also the proprietor of Pasal Suppliers, said that he has been selling Shakti, HP, Shreemaya, among other brands of LPG cylinders. Meanwhile, 24,000 litres of diesel was distributed from Amlekhgunj of Bara today. The vehicles had lined up at different pumps of Damauli in Tanahun early this morning.

CDO Mahadev Pantha said the diesel was distributed as per the newly enforced rule. He added that one more tank had also reached there and they would start distribution tomorrow morning.
