KATHMANDU, AUGUST 11

Chief Minister of Lumbini Province, Shankar Pokhrel, has tendered his resignation.

Pokhrel submitted his resignation to Lumbini Province Governor Amik Sherchan, today.

This is the second time Pokhrel, a close confidant of CPN-UML chair KP Sharma Oli, has resigned from the Chief Ministership of Lumbini.

Earlier, Pokhrel had resigned on May 2 after an alliance of provincial lawmakers of the Nepali Congress, Communist Party of Nepal-Maoist Centre and Janata Samajbadi Party-Nepal registered a no-trust motion against him with signatures of 41 lawmakers on April 19.

He was able to form a government under his leadership even after resigning back then. Things, however, do not seem to be going in his favour this time around.

Leaders of Nepali Congress, CPN-Maoist Centre and Madhav Nepal faction of CPN-UML, among other alliance partners, are now discussing possibility of formation of a new government following Pokhrel's resignation
