Madhes agitation to unite country: Rajendra Mahato

Rautahat, November 15

Sadbhawana Party Chairman Rajendra Mahato today warned that if the ongoing agitation in plains failed, the country would plunge into further crisis.

Talking to mediapersons at Malangawa of Sarlahi, Mahato claimed that success of the ongoing Madhes agitation would not disintegrate the country, but unite it. He further said the agitation in the Tarai was for strengthening Nepali nationalism.

He stressed the need to resolve issues of federal demarcation, inclusive proportional representation and constituencies on the basis of population in a package deal.

Stating that the new constitution had usurped the rights guaranteed by the Interim Constitution, Mahato argued that hollow nationalism would not help develop the country and added that people in the plains were always ready to save Nepali nationalism.

Noting that some leaders were making remarks to defame the ongoing agitation by portraying it as anti-nationalist, Mahato said, “We are not in favour of granting citizenship to foreigners and allowing them to hold the highest posts, including that of prime minister and president”.
