KATHMANDU, MARCH 18
Madhesh Chief Minister Satish Kumar Singh has announced that the provincial government will not participate in the Secondary Education Examination (SEE), set to begin on April 2.
Speaking at a press conference held at the Office of the Chief Minister and Council of Ministers today, he stated that the provincial government had decided to withdraw from the examinations, citing the disregard for its concerns and decisions regarding the SEE.
"On March 10, we decided to implement a lottery system for selecting examination center heads to ensure a dignified and systematic SEE process. However, since this decision was ignored, the provincial government will refrain from engaging in any SEE-related activities," said Chief Minister Singh.
Various teachers' associations and unions opposed the decision, forcing the Examination Selection Committee, chaired by the Chief District Officer, to intervene. The existing practice of appointing center presidents arbitrarily rather than through a lottery remained unchanged, prompting the provincial government's stance.
"We made this decision after informing the National Examination Board, but it was not implemented. Undermining the role of the provincial government is unacceptable," he asserted.
Earlier, the Madhesh Province Educational Directorate in Janakpurdham reported that 88,858 students from 1,231 schools will be taking the SEE across 312 examination centers in the province. Additionally, a total of 12,242 personnel, including 4,580 security officers, have been deployed for the examinations.
