Mahabir Pun proposes making Myagdi a model district in IT

BENI: Magsaysay Award winner Mahabir Pun has said that he has been making initiatives to developing Myagdi district into a model district in the sector of information and technology.

In an inaugural session of the first convention and global conference of Myagdi folks (living in different countries), at the district headquarters in Beni today, Pun said that he was engaged in a campaign to provide internet access to all VDCs in the district and requested all of them to support his campaign.

He stressed the need of financial support from the Myagdi folks as well as Non Resident Nepali (NRN) from the district. Stating that the internet service could be expanded in the district at a cost of around Rs 25 million, Pun said that the Rural Telecom Fund under the Nepal Telecom Authority had expressed commitment to provide 50 per cent support for the same.

Representatives from 14 countries have been participating in the one-day convention organised with an objective of attracting investment for the development of the district by uniting Myagdi folks, living in different countries.

Issuing a declaration for the development of the district, the convention would elect a new working committee of the Myagdi Overseas Nepalese Association (MONA).
