KATHMANDU, JANUARY 3
A 241-km-long track has been opened along the Kanchanpur-Darchula section of the Mahakali corridor.
According to Laxman Dutta Joshi, Chief of the Mahakali Corridor Project Office, 93 km of the track is yet to be opened in Dadeldhura, Baitadi, and Darchula.
Joshi stated, "Activities to open the track in the remaining areas have been accelerated. We have received orders to clear trees, and preparations have been made to blacktop the road where the track is ready." He added that the clearing of trees along the 31-km stretch from Simalta-Bhageshwor-Sunarya section of Dadeldhura is underway.
For the project, approximately 2,600 trees need to be cut down in the Dadeldhura section. Works to open the track on the 35-km Sunarya-Dogadakedar section of Baitadi are in progress, with activities focused on clearing trees and opening the track in the remaining area.
The Project Chief further shared that the upgrading of a 5-km-long road in Dadeldhura will be completed in the current fiscal year.
A total of 19,066 trees along the Mahakali corridor need to be cut down for the track. It is believed that there will be a drastic change in Sudurpaschim Province after the completion of the Mahakali corridor.
Although the construction activities of the Mahakali corridor started in the fiscal year 2065/66 BS, the track of all roads has not been opened yet. The corridor, linking remote areas of Kanchanpur, Dadeldhura, and Darchula bordering China, aims to connect more than half of the hilly areas of Sudurpaschim with the Tarai region.
In total, a 425-km-long road would be constructed from Kanchanpur to Darchula.
The Mahakali Corridor Road Project is constructing a 334-km-long road from Brahmadev to Tusarpani of Darchula, while the Nepali Army is opening a 91-km-long track from Tusarpani-Tinkar.
