Mahato faction gears up for ‘final showdown’ in Tarai
Bhairahawa, November 14:
Rajendra Mahato-led faction of the Nepal Sadbhavana Party said today his party has formed a defence brigade called ‘Madhes Rakshyabahini’ to mobilise the youths of Madhes for a final showdown in the Tarai.
Speaking at an interaction in Bhairahawa this morning, Mahato said the youths will first be given political training. “They will successively assume the duty as guards against discriminatory activities in the Madhes,” Mahato said. They will work as a shield to defend Madhes, he said. However, the youth force will be without arms, he said.
Of the 20 Tarai districts, Madhes Rakshyabahini has already been formed in Jhapa, Morang, Sunsari, Saptari, Siraha, Mahottari, Sarlahi, Rautahat, Bara, Parsa, Rupandehi, Banke, Bardiya, Kailali, Kanchanpur and Kapilbastu districts.
The Madhes Rakshyabahini will consist 100 trained cadres in each district. Mahato warned that nobody should imagine of building a new Nepal by excluding the genuine demands of Madhes communities. He also said that a decisive showdown has become a necessity to protect the rights and interests of the Madhesi people and that his party has reached the final stage for it.
Saying that the CA polls should not be deferred again at any cost, he said implementation of the two proposals passed by the interim parliament on republic and electoral system should be based on understanding of all sides.
He said that the nation was pushed into deeper crisis due to the Nepali Congress and the CPN (Maoist), which could not rise above the party interests.
He also said talks with different pro-Madhes groups are underway to form a united Madhes front, he said. He claimed such talks are aimed at bringing the armed Madhes groups to a peaceful path.
